In Spokane, WA on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, over 2,000 people joined the Occupy Wall Street protests, and filled the streets of downtown Spokane. The protesters encircled Chase and Bank of America buildings. However, on Sunday, October, 16, 2011, there appears to be a local news blackout or minimizing of the event.

Spokane, Washington is a sleepy conservative city. Though Spokane is the largest city between Seattle and Chicago, this area is known as just a big small town. Most protests are small gatherings of two people, a hundred, or a few hundred people. So when over 2,000 Spokanites converge in city streets, this protest ranks as a newsworthy event. But the local media apparently have decided to bury the Spokane protest stories and instead move on.

Spokane Protesters' Messages Join Worldwide "Occupy" Messages

The protesters' signs reflected the worldwide frustration with banks and governments holding the majority of the world's wealth while citizens are descending into poverty. "Citizens VS Corporate Greed." "We are the 99%." "This is what Democracy looks like." "End the Fed." "Education is Freedom." "I don't want a bailout. I want a future." "Pickets Practice Patriotism." "I will believe corporations are people when Texas executes one." There photos of fat cats and pigs equaling "US Bank, Citi Bank, Chase, Wells Fargo."
